New and Used Fifth Wheel Motor Homes
Another type of motor home is a Fifth Wheel, which is essentially a motor home that is towed by a truck. The living room and kitchen/dining areas have slide outs to expand the living space inside the motor home.
The advantage to this type of motor home is the truck can be disconnected from the motor home unit. The motor home can be left at a campground or trailer park, while the owners run errands and sight see without the worry of towing and parking the motor home extension.
A motor home dealer’s list price for a new, 2011 Keystone Cougar, Fifth Wheel runs from $35,000 to $45,000. Used Fifth Wheel motor homes can range from $10,000 for a 1994, model to $38,000 for a 2009 unit.
Another, and possibly cheaper, option is to buy a travel trailer which is towed behind a car or pickup truck. These units offer the same amenities as the Fifth Wheel motor homes at a fraction of the cost.
Prices for new Travel Trailer motor home vary from a base model at $21,000 to $43,000 for a 43-foot-long unit with numerous options.
